Article Marketing: How to Make your Content Go Viral

Content marketing is one of the most highly effective and cost efficient forms of advertising available in today’s marketplace. Article marketing is a form of content marketing where businesses write short articles in relation to their respected industry and make them available for distribution. Each article typically contains at the bottom of each article a bio box that includes references and contact information for the author’s business. If this is something your business is not already doing, you should seriously consider it.

This method of advertising is so powerful because if your content is put into the right hands, there’s no limit to how many readers your article will find. Article marketing gives your business validity by making you and your company experts in whatever field you wrote about, and can dramatically increase the number of new clients you obtain.

If you’re not a strong writer, then get someone from your company who is. Another option is to go to websites such as TheWritersForHire.com, seo-writer.com, or writingassist.com.

After your article has been written and edited, be sure to follow the guidelines for each source you submit your article to. This is important because if you prove to be difficult to work with by not following the company or website’s simple guidelines, they may not be so easy to work with either in the future. For example, just the other day I was banned from a site because I posted an article that was not in relation to what the website was about. It was a simple mistake, but that one mistake cost me lots of free traffic.

After you have completed all of the previous steps, go on to the next three tips to help your content go viral.

1. Post in forum and discussion boards
Give thought provoking questions and answers. Be useful and don’t just leave “spam”. If you come across as spam, your comments will most likely be deleted or never make it to the discussion board, and you may even be banned from the site; that’s usually the extreme though. At the end of your comment you can typically leave a link to your article with a title and it will be happily accepted if you follow the advice given.

2. Publish an e-book
E-books do not need to be anything fancy. They can be as short as a few pages or as short as a few articles. Offer a free version of your e-book as an incentive for joining your newsletter. Ask your readers to share it with their friends, or post it on other blogs or websites.

3. Add a disclosure statement
Disclosure statements usually occur at the end of your article and can read something like, “This article may be freely reprinted or distributed in its entirety in any e-zine, newsletter, blog or website. The author’s name, bio and website links must remain intact and be included with every reproduction.”
